For the first time, the Vienna Philharmonic has invited the Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin to conduct the 2026 New Year's Concert.

The artistic collaboration between Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Vienna Philharmonic began at the Mozart Week in Salzburg in 2010. Since that time, Nézet-Séguin has regularly conducted the orchestra in concerts in Vienna and Salzburg, and on tour. One special highlight was the Summer Night Concert 2023 under his baton.

The chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic, Daniel Froschauer, emphasizes Nézet-Séguin's important role with the orchestra: "The Vienna Philharmonic has enjoyed a close and fruitful artistic partnership with Yannick Nézet-Séguin since 2010. As music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as principal conductor of prominent international ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, he exemplifies the genres that together make up the musical language of the Vienna Philharmonic. In choosing Yannick Nézet-Séguin we seek to fulfil our goal of working more with the younger generation of conductors.
