Biography

Born in Vienna in 2001, Endre Steger received his first instruction on the cello with Thomas Kristen at the age of six. At 12, he was accepted into the class for highly talented students at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. At the same time, he also attended the Döbling High School, where he graduated with distinction. He then performed his military service with the Viennese Guard.

Since 2018, he has been a student of the well-known soloist István Várdai in Vienna. He has also received training in chamber music from Prof. Stefan Mendl in Vienna and Prof. Márta Gulyás at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest.

In the years 2014, 2016 und 2018, Endre Steger won the first prize and the special prize of the jury in the category violoncello solo at the national competition prima la musica and appeared thereafter as soloist in the concert hall in Grafenegg. He has also been a prizewinner at numerous international competitions, most recently the International Clara Schumann Competition, where he won first prize.

In the summers of 2020 and 2021, he participated in the chamber music festival Kapofest, where he appeared with such artists as Kirill Troussov, István Várdai and the long serving principal violist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Máté Szücs. In the summer of 2022, he participated in the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic in Salzburg.

Since 2023, Endre Steger has gathered ongoing orchestral experience as a substitute with the Vienna Symphony and the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra. He has also been on tour with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, appearing, among other places, in Spain and at the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest.

As a soloist, Endre has appeared with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in the main hall of the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, where he performed Respighi's Adagio con variazioni. In addition, he has performed Brahms' Double Concerto with the Concerto Budapest Orchestra and appeared together with Plácido Domingo at the Palace of Fine Arts (Müpa Budapest) in May 2024.
