100th Birthday of Leonard Bernstein

With the publication of a new book, a lecture on the artistic collaboration between Leonard Bernstein and the Vienna Philharmonic as well as the participation of Vienna Philharmonic musicians at the Bernstein Centennial Celebration in Tanglewood, the Vienna Philharmonic commemorates the anniversary of a musician with whom between 1966 and 1990, it developed a very close relationship.

The presentation will be based in part on source material from the Vienna Philharmonic Archives and the Leonard Bernstein Collection of the Library of Congress in Washington, which until now has not been analyzed in this context.

On August 25, 2018, Bernstein's 100th birthday, the Tanglewood Festival presents a special gala. Two musicians from every orchestra with which Bernstein enjoyed a close relationship, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and others have been invited to perform with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Chairman Daniel Froschauer and Business Manager Michael Bladerer will represent the Vienna Philharmonic at this event.

Also on August 25, 2018, the Vienna Philharmonic presents a new book, A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein, published as a special annual edition by the Vienna Philharmonic, in the DG Lounge of Mozart's Birthplace in Salzburg.
