About the Summer Academy
The Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic promotes the training of young orchestral talent. For more than fifteen years, the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic has been held in Salzburg during the Salzburg Festival. Playing in an orchestra of the highest quality is related to listening to each other, to interact with each other and to the flexibility between the musicians - this is to be learned and sharpened in the musical work ranging from chamber music in small groups to the large orchestra within the framework of the Summer Academy.
The Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic is a unique course for young musicians that focuses on orchestral playing, chamber music and individual lessons.
Modules
Orchestra
One of the focal points is the orchestra module. During an intensive rehearsal week, an orchestra programme is developed with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and under the direction of an internationally sought-after conductor and performed in several concerts.
Chamber Music
In the chamber music module, selected chamber music works in various smaller and larger ensembles are worked on in class with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and performed in various concerts.
Individual tuition
All participants in the chamber music or chamber orchestra modules have the opportunity to receive individual lessons with an audition programme with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Individual lessons is offered for all participating instruments and takes place within the Summer Academy period.
Stage music
Upon invitation by the jury, depending on the programme of the Salzburg Festival, participants of the Summer Academy have the opportunity to participate in the stage music of opera productions of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Salzburg.
No stage music takes place in 2024.
Summer Academy 2024
The Summer Academy 2024 will take place over a period of approximately 3 and a half weeks. After the selection process, the participants will be assigned to the individual modules by the jury, whereby the contents are structured as follows:
All Summer Academy participants take part in the Orchestra module. This is held from 7 to 23 August.
In addition, there is the possibility of being invited to the Chamber Music module after evaluation by the jury:
Chamber Music for Strings + Winds 28.07. - 23.08.
Participants in the chamber music module will also receive individual tuition from members of the Vienna Philharmonic as part of the audition training.
For the participants taking part in the orchestra module, workshops with an audition programme for the individual instrument groups are planned.

Ariadne auf Naxos
As an additional project this year, the Summer Academy is taking part in a concert production of the opera Ariadne auf Naxos at the Richard Strauss Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The project will take place in June before this year's Summer Academy. Further information can be found here.

Course location
Classes take place at the Musikum Salzburg, Schwarzstraße 49.
The building has sufficient rehearsal and practice rooms, a large concert hall with around 200 seats and a small chamber music hall, is acoustically appealing, offers a lot of comfort and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the academy period (28 July to 22 August).

In the Kolpinghaus Salzburg in 2-bed rooms with bath/WC incl. breakfast
Accommodation in a single room in the Kolpinghaus is subject to an extra charge (€ 37,- / night) depending on availability and should be requested at the time of registration.
The Kolpinghaus is within walking distance of all course venues and is an 18-minute walk from the main railway station.
