In memory of Günter Pichler

Austrian violinist, teacher, and conductor Günter Pichler, primarius of the Alban Berg Quartet, passed away in his 86th year in a car accident.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of a brilliant musical personality; we shared a long and profound artistic connection with him.

Günter Pichler’s exceptional talent, highest artistic quality, and wide-ranging, exemplary activities shaped musical life both within and beyond Europe. He served as concertmaster in our orchestra in 1962 and 1963, for which we are grateful. “He was one of us and our thoughts are with his family,” - Daniel Froschauer, chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic.
