Rued Langgaard: Symphonien Nr. 2 & 6

Rued Langgaard was a major Danish late-Romantic composer who gained little recognition in his mother country. His greatest successes took place in Germany and Austria, where his Symphonies Nos. 2 & 6 were met with considerable acclaim. Rued Langgaard's work is characterized by exaggerated emotions and ecstatic moods, but also by an ingeniously applied craft and spontaneous creativity. With this Vienna Philharmonic recording, Langgaard's music returns home to a central European musical culture.

This CD also includes the "Tango Jalousie" by Jacob Gade, the most frequently played piece of Danish music.
