Jan Jankovic, who was born on September 6, 1984, is the son of a musical family. He received his first music lessons at the age of five and in 1991 he was accepted into the horn class of Stjepan Obadić in Zagreb. As of 1996 he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Friedrich Gabler and our long-time member, Willibald Janezic, completing his diploma with distinction in 2003. In that same year he received an engagement as first horn in the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, changing in the 2007/2008 season to principal horn with the Zagreb Philharmonic. Following a successful audition, he joined the Vienna State Opera Orchestra on September 1, 2008, as a second horn, where he is often used on first horn as well.

In addition to his orchestral work, Jan Jankovic has given numerous concerts as a soloist with such orchestras as the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Zagreb Soloists, the Kammerorchestra Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, the Dubrovnik Symphony, the Split Chamber Orchestra or the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked with the Gustav Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the UBS Festival Youth Orchestra, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin. He also has great interest in chamber music and has enjoyed much success, working on a regular basis with the Vienna Mozart Academy and as a member of the Vienna Virtuosi and the Vienna Wind Octet.
