Between 1976 and 1980, he served as principal violist with the Vienna Symphony and in 1980 toured the near east as a soloist, also making numerous appearances as soloist with the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler and other orchestras. In 1980, he became principal violist with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic.

There have been numerous concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic in which he has been featured as a soloist, among them are those at the Salzburg Mozart Festival and Mozart's "Concertante" with Rainer Küchl and Zubin Mehta for the opening of the Mozart Year 1991 in the Vienna Musikverein. In that same year, he performed Richard Strauss' Don Quixote for CD along with Franz Bartolomey and Andre Previn. The summer of 2004 brought a chamber music tour in the USA, followed by a performance of Mozart's "Concertant" in Spain.  This same work was repeated in the Vienna Musikverein with Zubin Mehta in December 2005. In 2006, he also made a solo appearance in Don Quixote in Nagoya, Japan.
